Man Identified in Self-Defense Death

File

The Vanderburgh County Coroner has identified Saturday's shooting victim as
Carson Helmling, 34, of Evansville

Authorities have released the identity of a man shot to death in what police are calling a case of self-defense. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

The Vanderburgh County Coroner says 34-year-old Carson Helmling died after Saturday’s shooting in the 14-hundred block of Delmar Avenue.

Evansville police say Helmling was found with a gunshot wound to the chest and taken to Deaconess Midtown Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The suspected shooter was detained at the scene.

The EPD said based on evidence and statements of everyone involved, the shooting has been determined to be in self-defense – at least “at this time.”

Police say no one has been arrested.
Investigators do ask anyone with more information on the shooting to contact Evansville Police at 812-436-7979.
