UPS Worker Accused of Stealing Gun

VCSO
Miray Arness Smith, 26

A worker at Evansville's UPS facility is accused of stealing a package containing a handgun

A man who works at Evansville’s UPS facility is accused of stealing a package containing a gun. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says a local gun store reported that a firearm shipped to a customer had not been delivered and no tracking information was available.

A Sheriff’s Office detective and a special agent from the ATF tracked the package to the UPS facility on Negley Avenue.

Upon reviewing security footage, investigators say employee Miray Arness Smith concealed at least two packages and did not process them.

The sheriff’s office says Smith admitted to stealing parcels but denied stealing the handgun – although he did say he could retrieve it.

Investigators say Smith refused to provide further information about the whereabouts of the gun or how he would retrieve it.

He was taken into custody on a preliminary charge of Theft of a Firearm and lodged in the Vanderburgh County Jail.
