Storms Knock-Out Power, End Heat Wave

File

Severe thunderstorms bring seasonal temperatures and the weather service lifts its Extreme Heat Warning

Storms and thunderstorms have broken the heat wave and left thousands of people without power. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

The National Weather Service has lifted the Extreme Heat Warning in the Tri-State.

Showers and storms rolled through the area early Monday, and forecasters say they ushered in a cooler air mass.

The storms were part of the same system that brought deadly flooding to the Indianapolis area.

More than an inch of rain was recorded in Evansville and the weather service issued a number of severe thunderstorm warnings in the area early Monday morning.

CenterPoint Energy reported more than 43-hundred customers without power as of 6 a.m.

Crews reduced that number to less than two-thousand by mid-morning.

High temperatures are expected to stay below 90 degrees most days this week with temps close to average for mid-August.

Forecasters are predicting more showers and storms by mid-week.
