Authorities are warning of a sobriety checkpoint in the Evansville area Thursday night. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:
The Evansville-Vanderburgh County Traffic Safety Partnership says it will set up the checkpoint from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. at an undisclosed location.
Authorities say the spot was selected based on traffic crash data, with a focus on a high number of hit-and-run crashes.
Sheriff’s deputies, Evansville Police officers, Indiana State Police troopers, and State Excise Police officers will take part in the effort to identify and deter impaired driving.
Authorities encourage drivers to use a rideshare service or designate a sober driver if they drink or use any other “impairing substances”
Indiana law and constitutional guidelines require law enforcement agencies to provide advance public notice of sobriety checkpoints.
The results will be released on Friday.
