Tri-State Faces New Flood, Tornado Risk

NWS Paducah

The National Weather Service has boosted the severe weather risk to Level 2 and extended a Flood Watch through Saturday night

The threat of flooding and tornadoes has increased in the Tri-State. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

The National Weather Service has placed the Evansville area at a Level 2 – or slight – risk of severe storms on Friday, up from a Level 1.

Forecasters say some storms may contain damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes.

The new tornado risk follows an outbreak of twisters that hit the area Sunday night.

Meanwhile, a flood watch has been extended through this Saturday night, for repeated bouts of heavy rain.

The weather service has also placed the Tri-State in a Level 1 – or marginal risk – of severe storms this Saturday.

The storms and flooding are expected to be followed by the hottest temperatures of the summer so far.

The heat wave is predicted to continue through at least Thursday, with highs in the mid-to-upper 90’s and the heat index up to 110.
