A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting on Evansville’s North Side. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
Police and medics responded to a report of a possible overdose in the 500 block of Colonial Ave. just before 1:00 Thursday.
The Evansville Police Department says an on-duty, plain-clothes detective was nearby and responded.
After arriving, the EPD says the detective retrieved his department issued Narcan and approached the home and announced himself as a police officer.
An adult female allowed the detective inside the home where a male suspect was reportedly down a hallway.
Police say as the detective approached and looked around a corner, the male suspect was pointing a gun in their direction.
The EPD says the male fired at the detective who returned fire before retreating outside the home and taking cover in the front yard.
The suspect followed, reportedly pointing his gun at both the adult female and the detective.
The officer fired additional shots, hitting the suspect.
Police say the man was provided on-scene emergency care but did not survive his injuries.
No one else was injured.
The man’s name had not been released as of midday Friday.
