AARP Awards EPD Officer for Battling Fraud

The American Association of Retired Persons has honored an Evansville Police officer. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The EPD says Sgt. Nathan Vancleave of the department’s Financial Crimes Unit has received the AARP Guardian Award.

It honors law enforcement officers who work to battle fraud.

Sgt. Vancleave was recognized for his work in getting crypto currency ATMs banned in the State of Indiana.

He and others approached State Representative Wendy McNamara, who then authored the bill in the Indiana House.

The measure passed the legislature and Governor Braun signed it into law.

The EPD says the number of crypto currency scams had been doubling each year, with an average loss of 11-thousasnd dollars.

Police say ATM companies were collecting an average 38-percent transaction fee.
