Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) says overdose deaths fell nearly 23% in 2025

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear says overdose deaths in the commonwealth have decreased for the fourth straight year. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:

Beshear says eleven-hundred-and-one Kentuckians lost their lives last year to a drug overdose.

He says that’s a nearly 23-percent decrease from the previous year and a more than 50-percent drop from 2021.

Beshear says he mourns all the losses but is “proud of the progress” the state has made in fighting addiction.

He says “we must continue working every day to save more Kentuckians.”

Fentanyl and Methamphetamine were responsible for about 95-percent of the 2025 deaths.

Beshear says the 2025 number is the lowest amount of fatal overdoses in Kentucky since 2014.
