Officials are seeking a state grant to help with the renovation of Evansville’s Soldiers and Sailors Coliseum. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:
The Coliseum Preservation Foundation is applying for up to $19.5 million in READI grant funding.
Vanderburgh County owns the Coliseum and County Commissioners approved the move despite some unanswered questions.
Commissioner Mike Goebel told the foundation’s Jill Hahn that he has questions about a feasibility study and whether the county will be expected to match the funding:
Goebel: "But I don't want to block us getting some funds if that's possible. I don't think there's any way we're getting 19.5" Hahn: "No." Goebel: "And we have to have a plan as far as step-by-step."
Hahn says Phase One of the renovation is complete and an “arts and culture” READI grant would make more progress.
The more than century-old Coliseum remains closed for the work.
