Vanderburgh County Commissioners approved a resolution urging the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission to pause rate increases

Vanderburgh County Commissioners have joined the Evansville City Council in calling on state regulators to stop energy rate hikes. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

The three-member commission unanimously approved a resolution Tuesday urging the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission to pause, delay, or deny more rate increases.

The resolution matches the city council’s measure and follows last week’s IURC listening session in Evansville.

Vanderburgh County Commissioner Mike Goebel drew applause at the event when he told regulators that local residents have no other option than CenterPoint Energy:

"Is there any way that we can push for competition against CenterPoint?. I don't know."

CenterPoint is expected to file for a natural gas rate increase later this year.

The company has said it’s trying to reduce costs and has been hosting Community Connect events, including one Tuesday night at the YMCA facility on S. Garvin St.
