Two Evansville Police officers shot a suspect at the end of a pursuit

A police pursuit in Evansville ended in gunfire. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Evansville Police Sgt. Anthony Aussieker says officers tried to stop a car at Weinbach and Covert avenues late Wednesday afternoon, containing a man with a felony warrant known to carry firearms.

Aussieker says the suspect fled the vehicle on foot into a nearby neighborhood where he entered two separate homes.

The EPD says the first resident forced him out but he stole keys to a truck from the second home.

Aussieker says the offender tried to flee in the stolen truck by repeatedly hitting a police vehicle.

After getting the stolen truck out of the driveway, police say officers blocked his path with their patrol vehicles on the street.

Aussieker says the suspect then backed-up, nearly striking at least two officers, before hitting the police vehicle again.

That’s when two EPD officers fired their weapons at the man inside the stolen truck.
Police say the offender got out and was taken into custody without further incident.

He was taken to a hospital with what police called non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect’s name has not yet been released. He’s expected to face numerous charges.
