The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission will host a listening session on utility bills at Old National Events Plaza Tuesday evening

State utility regulators are inviting residents to a community listening session in Evansville Tuesday evening. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

CenterPoint Energy customers are invited to bring their utility bills to the session at Old National Events Plaza.

The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m.

The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission is expected to deliver a brief presentation before customers can address commissioners.

Officials from CenterPoint went before the IURC in Indianapolis last month to answer questions about affordability.

New commission member Bob Deig of Evansville told CenterPoint officials that residents frequently ask him at ball games about their high utility bills:

"People's bills have gone up and profits have gone up and I'd like to know what you're doing internally for your budgets, to lower your budget, tighten your belt, just like all the other ratepayers are in CenterPoint territory."

CenterPoint Indiana President Mike Roeder says the company has been looking for ways to reduce costs:

"Uneconomical generation projects that we didn't pursue, and some of the creative things that we're thinking about such as combining the rates of our two gas businesses."

CenterPoint also said it will make distribution charges more transparent.
