Authorities have identified the female inmate who died at the Vanderburgh County Jail last as Destinee Howard, 33

An investigation continues after a female inmate died at the Vanderburgh County Jail last week. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:

The Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as 33-year-old Destinee Howard.

An autopsy was planned on Friday.

Howard died after jail staff responded to a medical emergency involving her.

The sheriff’s office said the staff immediately started life-saving measures including CPR and using an external defibrillator.

Evansville Fire Department and AMR personnel arrived to provide additional care but Howard could not be revived.

In accordance with sheriff’s office policy, an external agency – Indiana State Police -- is conducting the investigation.

The sheriff’s office is conducting an internal probe.
