A female inmate has died at the Vanderburgh County jail. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
The sheriff’s office says jail officers and medical staff responded to an inmate with a medical emergency just before midnight Thursday.
The office says the staff immediately started life-saving measures including CPR and an external defibrillator.
Evansville Fire Department and AMR personnel arrived to provide additional care but the inmate could not be revived.
The deceased was described as a 33-year-old female.
The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office had not released the inmate’s identity as of midday Thursday.
In accordance with sheriff’s office policy, an external agency – Indiana State Police -- is conducting the investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office is conducting a parallel internal review.
