A local inmate faces new charges after allegedly trying to escape from an Evansville hospital. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says inmate Connor Spachtholz was taken to the hospital for observation.
A sheriff’s deputy provided custody watch over the inmate during his stay.
Authorities say Spachtholz was wearing secure leg shackles when he asked to use the restroom and the shower Tuesday afternoon.
The deputy then reported hearing a loud crash from inside the restroom.
He found ceiling tiles on the floor, a light fixture hanging down, and a section of drywall above the toilet broken off.
The sheriff’s office says Spachtholz claimed the damage was accidental but the physical evidence didn’t match the claim.
Spachtholz was returned to the jail with a new charge of Escape and charges of Criminal Mischief filed by hospital police.
