Two people are in custody after a standoff on Evansville’s West Side. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:
Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 1400 block of N. Red Bank Road Thursday night for a report of domestic violence.
It turned out two people were arguing over an animal.
The sheriff’s office says deputies discovered that 45-year-old Derek Deen was hiding inside the residence.
Deen had an active felony warrant for a probation violation.
After obtaining a search warrant, giving multiple warnings for Deen to surrender, and numerous attempts to de-escalate, the sheriff’s office says deputies entered the home with an Evansville Police K9 Team.
They found Deen hiding in the basement and took him into custody.
He was taken to a hospital for medical treatment and then booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail.
43-year-old Teresa Spoon was arrested on a charge of Assisting a Criminal.
