Authorities say a teen driver led officers on high-speed chase that ended in a crash. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says deputies tried to stop a car after observing traffic violations near the intersection of First Avenue and Mill Road late Wednesday night.
The sheriff’s office says the vehicle failed to stop, proceeded through several intersections, and turned west onto Diamond Avenue.
Deputies say the car reached speeds topping 100 miles-an-hour in “minimal” traffic, turned onto the University Parkway, turned around, and headed back east on Diamond.
Officers deployed stop sticks near Detroy Road, the vehicle began to lose a tire, and crashed into a guardrail near the intersection of Diamond and Mesker Park Drive.
Deputies said there were two juvenile occupants in the car, which had been reported stolen a short time earlier.
The juvenile passenger was taken to Deaconess Midtown Hospital for a hip injury.
The 16-year-old driver was checked out at Deaconess before being transported to the Youth Care Center.
The driver faces numerous charges, including Auto Theft, Resisting Law Enforcement, and Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon.
More: Per protocol, the juveniles' names were not released.
