The Vanderburgh County Sheriff says he’s seeking to fire a deputy accused of drunken driving. WNIN’s Gibson has details:
Sheriff Noah Robinson says Deputy Evan Luigs was arrested at the scene of an accident and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated.
Sheriff Robinson says it was the second alcohol-related incident involving the deputy in just over a year.
Officers say they detected signs of intoxication from Luigs, who was off-duty at the time of the accident near Highway 41 and Ruffian Way.
A probable cause affidavit states Luigs refused to submit to sobriety and chemical tests at the accident scene and again at the Vanderburgh County Jail.
No one was injured in the crash.
Sheriff Robinson says personnel are expected to follow the highest standards of conduct both on and off duty.
He says the office gave Deputy Luigs an opportunity to correct his conduct after the first incident.
Robinson calls the latest “deeply disappointing” and leaves him no alternative but to seek the deputy’s termination.
