Vanderburgh County Commissioners have approved a resolution in support of legislation sparked by a murder in Evansville

Vanderburgh County Commissioners have endorsed a bill at the Indiana Statehouse to better warn police agencies when inmates are released. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

House Bill 250 was introduced following the murder of Susan Haynie of Evansville in her East Side home last year.

The suspect, 35-year-old Jamerus Parkman, was a convicted felon who was recently released from prison.

Former Mayor Lloyd Winnecke was a friend of Haynie’s. He went before county commissioners on Tuesday:

"Your approval of the resolution today will send a strong signal to our legislative friends in Indianapolis that this is an important bill not just for our community but for the entire state."

Commissioner Amy Canterbury thanked Winnecke for gathering signatures in support of the bill:

"I just want to thank the committee for their work and diligence in gaining the signatures and for the right reasons. More than 2,000 signatures. Wow."

The bill was expected to receive a vote on the House floor Wednesday.
