A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Posey County. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:
Indiana State Police are investigating the shooting that happened during the noon hour Thursday on State Road 69, north of Copperline Road.
The ISP says the Posey County Sheriff’s Office received information that a male wanted on two felony warrants was a passenger in a tractor trailer.
A state trooper spotted the vehicle on State Road 69 and continued to follow it until two Sheriff Deputies arrived to assist.
The officers conducted a “high risk stop” and the driver of the semi followed orders and exited the vehicle.
The ISP says the male passenger exited the semi while pointing a handgun to his head.
Information obtained at the scene indicated the passenger was suicidal.
During the encounter, both Sheriff’s Deputies fired their weapons and male was hit at least once.
Officers rendered aid and called for an ambulance but he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
No officers were hurt.
It’s not clear why the deputies fired their weapons.
The state trooper did not.
The ISP continues to investigate.
