Strong thunderstorms, including possible tornadoes, hit the Evansville area ahead of much colder air

High winds, heavy rain, and possible tornadoes ushered much colder weather into the Tri-State. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

A powerful cold front forced the National Weather Service to issue several Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado warnings in the Evansville area Sunday night.

Among the possible twisters were one near Haubstadt and another near Corydon, Kentucky.

The storms brought down trees, tree limbs, and power lines.

CenterPoint Energy reported less than 300 customers without electricity as of mid-morning Monday in southwest Indiana.

The storms also damaged the Pike County Animal Welfare shelter, prompting a call for emergency foster families.

The cold front dropped temperatures more than 40 degrees in the Tri-State.

The temperature was expected to stay below freezing in Evansville Monday, with wind chills in the teens.
