A man is in custody accused of starting an apartment fire in Evansville more than a year ago. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:

Police arrested 46-year-old Benjamin Barnes following a lengthy investigation by the Evansville Fire Department, Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office, ATF, U.S. Marshals Service, and Evansville Police.

The fire happened in a second-floor unit at the Ingle Terrace Apartments, near the Lloyd Expressway and Martin Luther King Blvd, in October 2024.

Four people were injured in the blaze.

Barnes denied starting the fire but investigators say surveillance footage showed him and his vehicle at the scene.

Barnes faces multiple charges, including three counts of Arson Resulting in Bodily Injury.

He’s being held on a $100,000 bond.
