NAACP Calls For Transparent Shooting Probe

File

The Evansville branch of the NAACP is calling for transparency and accountability as the EPD investigates the fatal shooting of Everett Nunn

The Evansville branch of the NAACP is calling for transparency as police investigate a fatal officer-involved shooting. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:

In a statement, the group says the public deserves “transparency and accountability” as police investigate the shooting death of 58-year-old Everett Nunn, who was black.

An EPD officer fatally shot Nunn while he was holding a novelty pipe that was shaped like a gun.

It happened as officers were responding to a report of a fight at Nunn’s home.

The NAACP also says the community deserves timely accurate information while Nunn’s family deserves dignity, truth and justice.

The group says it will continue to “monitor the investigation closely.”

NAACP President Ed Lander says the police department provided a private viewing of the officer’s body cam video before it was released to the public on Monday.
