Maurice Cobb Jr., 25, allegedly falsified documents to illegally purchase 2 guns, including the firearm that wounded Evansville Police Officer Samuel Taylor

Another arrest has been made in connection with the shooting of an Evansville Police officer. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Police arrested 25-year-old Maurice Keith James Cobb, Jr. of Evansville.

Cobb is accused of the illegal purchase and transfer of firearms, one of which was later used in Sunday morning’s shooting of EPD Officer Samuel Taylor.

Police say Cobb filled out federal firearms paperwork at a local store for the purchase of a two firearms.

The EPD says Cobb falsely stated he was not under felony indictment.

In fact, police say Cobb is under felony indictment out of Perry County for Neglect of a Dependent.

Cobb later took possession of both firearms, one of which police say he gifted to 18-year-old Jailani Chew.

Chew is accused of shooting Officer Taylor with the illegally purchased gun early Sunday near Virginia St. and Fares Ave.

Authorities say Taylor is being treated at a hospital and may lose the use of his lower extremities.
