A Petersburg woman has been sentenced to federal prison after pleading guilty to stealing from a youth program. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:
Judge Richard Young sentenced 50-year-old Ellen Corn to one year and nine months, followed by three years of supervised release.
The U.S. Department of Justice says Corn pleaded guilty to five counts of wire fraud.
Authorities say Corn stole more than 161-thousand dollar from a Dubois County nonprofit that facilitates a youth mentoring program and college scholarships for high school students.
They say Corn stole the funds several ways, including by using the organization’s credit card to pay for personal expenses at various businesses and restaurants from 2017 to 2022.
Authorities say Corn made sure the organization had enough funds to pay for her illegitimate expenses by reducing funding for certain departments and programs.
Corn has also been ordered to pay more than 121-thousand dollars in restitution.
