Volunteer Lawyer Program Receives $1.7 million

Pro Bono Indiana

The Volunteer Lawyer Program provides pro bono legal services for low-income residents in the Evansville area

Funding has been received by an Evansville group that provides legal assistance to low-income residents. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Evansville-based Pro Bono Indiana and its local affiliate, the Volunteer Program of Southwestern Indiana, received more than one-point-seven million dollars from the Indiana Bar Foundation.

PBI’s mission is to provide what it calls meaningful access to civil legal aid services through the strategic use of pro bono volunteer attorneys and paralegal services.

Executive Director Scott Wylie says the investment from the Indiana Bar Foundation last year allowed the local Volunteer Lawyer Program to serve more than 25-hundred low-income residents facing civil legal needs.

Wylie says without the support, victims of domestic violence, families facing eviction, or veterans in need of guidance might otherwise be without the legal help that they need.
