A man is accused of detonating an explosive device near construction workers on Evansville’s West Side. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says 42-year-old Joshua Keith Messic was arrested after setting off a “sparkler bomb” near INDOT workers at a job site.
They were working on Elm Street adjacent to the Lloyd Expressway when the blast occurred.
One worker told sheriff’s deputies she felt an object she described as a fireball hit her and bounce away.
Another worker witnessed her being hit.
Two other workers were in a vehicle and said the explosion shook their car.
No one was injured in the blast.
Messic was arrested and charged with three felonies.
The sheriff’s office says Messic admitted to detonating the device because he was tired of the noise from the Lloyd construction and “wanted to make a point.”
Authorities say he apologized to the workers, telling them he meant no harm and was trying to be funny.
