Another step forward for an I-69 Bridge over the Ohio River. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
The Kentucky Public Transportation Infrastructure Authority has approved a financial plan for Section 2 of the I-69 Ohio River Crossing.
The authority also approved a resolution to enter into a Bi-State Development Agreement between Kentucky and Indiana.
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear calls it a “significant milestone” for the Evansville-Henderson span.
The agreement calls for the two states to jointly undertake infrastructure improvements including the construction of a four-lane bridge to carry I-69 traffic across the Ohio River.
Work is already underway on both sides of the river.
Section 2 costs are estimated at nearly 933-million dollars and are expected to be covered by tolls on the new bridge.
The Section 2 contract is expected to be awarded in late 2026 with construction expected to start in early 2027 and be complete in 2031.
Current plans call for demolishing one of the existing Twin Bridges and keeping the other for toll-free local traffic.
