Sobriety Checkpoint Nets 3 Arrests

VCSO

A Sobriety Checkpoint on Evansville's West Side led to 3 arrests late Thursday night

A sobriety checkpoint on Evansville’s West Side led to three arrests, as well as tickets and warnings. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:

It turns out the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Traffic Safety Partnership set-up Thursday night’s checkpoint on N. Saint Joe Ave. near Buchanan Road.

The sheriff’s office says officers from multiple agencies diverted 96 vehicles into the checkpoint between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m.

They arrested three people for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated.

The sheriff’s office says several other drivers admitted to consuming alcohol and underwent field sobriety testing.

Drivers showing signs of impairment were evaluated and offered alternate transportation if their alcohol content was near the legal limit.

Authorities say drivers who had not been drinking and had a valid driver’s license were typically back on the road in less than 90 seconds.

In addition to the three arrests, officers issued five traffic tickets, seven warnings, and one misdemeanor citation.
