One of the longest heat waves in recent memory has ended in the Tri-State. WNIN’s John Gibson has a recap:
The National Weather Service says high temperatures in the low to mid 90s combined with high humidity pushed the heat index above 100 on July 16th and continued through the 30th.
We saw some temporary relief on the 19th and 21st thanks to widespread showers, thunderstorms, and associated cloud cover.
But the weather service says when the showers and storms dwindled, the entire region became engulfed in heat index readings of 100 to 110.
The most oppressive heat happened this week with the heat index reaching 110 to 120 in the region.
Evansville’s highest heat index was 113 Monday afternoon.
The Paducah office issued Heat Advisories or Extreme Heat Warnings 15 consecutive days.
Finally, a cold front is bringing cooler and less humid air to the Tri-State.
High temperatures are forecast to stay below 90 degrees through at least next Wednesday.
