Heat Wave to Peak This Week

NWS Paducah

The weather service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for the Evansville area through at least Tuesday

Forecasters are warning of dangerous heat and humidity. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for the Tri-State.

It’s in effect through at least Tuesday.

The agency has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for Wednesday.

Forecasters are predicting high temperatures in the mid-to-upper 90’s, with humidity levels that may boost the heat index up to 115.

Authorities urge all of us to avoid outdoor activities, especially during the hottest time of day.

If you must work outdoors, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning and drink plenty of water.

Authorities also say don’t leave children or pets in vehicles, check on family members, neighbors and the elderly, and bring outdoor pets inside.

Forecasters say there’s a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms that may bring some temporary relief.

The heat wave is expected to end on Thursday, with showers and thunderstorms and high temperatures below 90.
