Tentative Execution Date Set for Ward

File

Convicted killer Roy Lee Ward may be executed Oct. 10th for 2001 rape and murder of a Spencer County, Indiana teenager

A tentative execution date has been set for the man convicted of raping and killing a Spencer County teen nearly 25 years ago. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

The Indiana Supreme Court has set October 10th as the execution date for Roy Lee Ward.

He’s the man who was convicted of raping and killing 15-year-old Stacy Payne inside her home in Dale in 2001.

Ward’s attorneys have an opportunity to respond to the court order.

The ruling did not say how Ward would be put to death.

Governor Mike Braun has said the state has run out of lethal injection drugs.

He said they have a “shelf life” and cost $300,000 each.
