Evansville Police: Ahnna Tipton, 19, planned to detonate devices at her former high school

Evansville Police say a young Warrick County woman has been arrested for possessing incendiary devices. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

An officer transported 19-year-old Ahnna Tipton to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital for an evaluation on Thursday.

The EPD says during the intake process, a St. Vincent Police Officer discovered a suspicious item inside Tipton’s backpack.

It appeared to be a pill bottle wrapped in duct tape, with a matchstick protruding from the lid and a piece of cloth attached.

Police say a second suspicious item was also located in the backpack: an aluminum pipe sealed at both ends with duct tape and a strong chemical odor.

The EPD says Tipton admitted to making the devices, which were confirmed by technicians to be improvised incendiary devices.

Police say they found two more at her Warrick County residence.

The EPD says Tipton said she had planned to deploy the devices at her former high school.

Police arrested Tipton on the charge of ‘Possession of a Destructive Device.’

The EPD thanked the St. Vincent officer and the department’s bomb technicians, who may have prevented a tragic event.
