Police captured a southern Indiana driver accused of stealing a police cruiser and leading officers on a two-state chase. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:
Indiana State Police say 31-year-old Nina Devillez of Santa Claus crashed into a ditch on State Road 62 shortly before 9:00 Monday morning.
During a confrontation with a Chandler officer at the crash scene, the suspect waved a sword at him, and the officer fired his gun.
The officer wounded the suspect who still managed to get into the police cruiser and drive away.
The ISP says Devillez eluded police until a Rockport Police officer spotted the Chandler Police vehicle traveling south on U.S. 231.
Police tried to stop the vehicle, but they say the suspect continued to travel at speeds of more than 120 mph before crossing the Ohio River into Kentucky.
The ISP says Devillez then ran off the road and crashed into an open field.
The suspect exited the patrol vehicle and started to run away, but the ISP says the Rockport officer and a Daviess County Deputy tased the suspect and took them into custody.
Devillez was taken to Owensboro Health Hospital and faces numerous charges.
Warrick County schools locked-down their buildings during the chase.
The Chandler Police officer was placed on administrative leave.
