Authorities Release IDs from Huntingburg Tragedy

File

Olivia Regalado, 53, died of a medical emergency; Evelynn Lopez, 4, was killed by dogs

Authorities have released the names of a woman and a young girl found dead inside a Huntingburg home. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

Huntingburg police say 53-year-old Olivia Regalado and four-year-old Evelynn Lopez were found unresponsive inside the home in the 100 block of North Geiger Street on Monday.

An investigation and autopsies determined Regalado died during a medical emergency from a preexisting condition, leaving Lopez alone in the house with seven dogs.

Police say for unknown reasons, the dogs attacked the girl and she died from her injuries at Deaconess Memorial Hospital in Jasper.

Huntingburg police says officials euthanized the dogs – six pit bulls and one poodle mix -- for the safety of everyone involved and for the preservation of evidence.

The dogs’ bodies were taken to Sothern Indiana Purdue Agriculture center for laboratory testing.

No charges have been filed in the tragedy.
