The Sauced restaurant and a neighboring building were severely damaged on Christmas Day

Barring a last-minute reprieve, two historic buildings in Evansville’s Haynie’s Corner neighborhood will be demolished. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The Design Review Board approved the demolition of the Sauced restaurant and an adjacent building on Parrett Street.

A Christmas Day fire severely damaged the buildings.

Owner Scott Schymick told the board there was too much fire and smoke damage to rebuild.

Evansville Metro Development Director Kolbi Jackson tells WNIN News the buildings are not in a preservation district.

But she says the board agreed to a 14-day hold on the demolition to give preservation groups a chance to present ideas that could save the less-damaged of the two brick structures.

Schymick has said he wants to redevelop the sites.
