The Ohio River continues to rise toward near-historic levels. WNIN’s John Gibson has the latest:
Heavy rains from recent storms have pushed rivers out of their banks throughout the region.
The Ohio is predicted to reach its highest levels since the 1937 Flood.
The National Weather Service says the river will crest at 51 feet at Newburgh on Friday. Flood stage at Newburgh is 38 feet.
In Evansville, the river is forecast to reach 48-and-a-half feet late Friday. Flood stage at Evansville is 42 feet.

The great flood of ’37 peaked at 53-and three-quarters feet in Evansville.
The levee system installed after the flood is designed to protect the city to 57 feet.
The Ohio River crest is expected to reach Mt. Vernon on Saturday, topping out near 49 feet. Flood stage at Mt. Vernon is 35 feet.
Officials urge drivers to respect barricades and don’t drive into flooded roadways.
Emergency crews have made numerous water rescues, where drivers have done just that.
