A western Kentucky town devastated by a tornado in 2021 is now dealing with widespread flooding. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:
A number of homes in Dawson Springs are surrounded by flood waters after enormous amounts of rain fell on Hopkins County.
Less than four years ago, the town was heavily damaged by a tornado.
Now, some families have to use boats to reach their homes.
The flooding from recent storms has pushed rivers out of their banks, flooding numerous roads, especially in western Kentucky.
The Ohio River at Evansville and Newburgh is predicted to reach its highest point since the 1937 Flood.
The National Weather Service says the river is forecast to crest at 48-and-a-half feet at Evansville late Friday.
The great flood of ’37 peaked at 53-and three-quarters feet.
The levee system installed after the flood is designed to protect the city to 57 feet.
