The river is expected to crest 4.5 feet above flood stage at Evansville

The heavy rains have ended but plenty of water is left behind. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

Flood Warnings are in effect for area rivers, with many roads covered by water -- including numerous state highways in western Kentucky.

The Ohio River at Evansville is forecast to crest at about 46-and-a-half feet this Saturday.

Flood Stage at Evansville is 42 feet. The levee system is designed to protect the city up to 57 feet – more than three feet above the crest of the 1937 Flood.

The National Weather Service is forecasting at least three dry days in a row, with our next chance of rain Thursday morning.

In the meantime, the agency has also issued a Freeze Alert for tonight.

The temperature is expected to drop into the upper 20’s early Tuesday morning.
