The National Weather Service says it was likely an EF-2 tornado that damaged homes and trapped residents in Gibson County Saturday morning. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
The agency says preliminary data shows a twister with winds as high as 120 miles an hour damaged structures west of Somerville; in Oakland City; and in Algiers – which is in Pike County.
First responders had to rescue residents from damaged homes in Oakland City.
There were no reports of serious injuries.
The storm damage displaced at least eight people in Oakland City.
Storm damage in western Kentucky forced Owensboro High School and Owensboro Catholic Middle School to be closed today (Mon).
The weather service says it will take several days to survey all the damage in the region.
The American Red Cross says its disaster workers are assisting communities across the Indiana Region impacted by the severe storms.
