Local Disaster Declared in Chandler

File

Warrick officials are looking to assist residents impacted by mine collapse

Warrick County officials have declared an emergency following an underground mine collapse in Chandler. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

Warrick County Commissioners, in conjunction with the Town of Chandler and the county’s Emergency Management Agency, have declared a “local emergency disaster.”

In a statement, the EMA calls it “a collaborative effort to assist residents impacted by the recent mine subsidence incident.”

Residents along East Monroe in Chandler heard a “loud boom” last weekend followed by cracks forming along the street and in homes.

The underground collapse caused some houses to tilt off their foundations.

No injuries were reported

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources continues to assess the damage.

Officials say a DNR geologist will evaluate the ground on Thursday.
