Underground Mine Collapse Damages Homes

Warrick County EMA

Warrick County EMA: at least nine homes damaged in Chandler

At least nine homes have been damaged after an old underground coal mine collapsed in the town of Chandler. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

It happened along East Monroe St., causing homes to crack and tilt.

There was no word of any injuries but the damage will likely be costly.

Officials from the Indiana departments of Natural Resources and Homeland Security are surveying the area.

Town officials say the collapse caused at least three water main breaks.

Officials have also shut off gas to homes and say new gas lines will be installed.

During a Chandler Town Council meeting last (Mon) night, town officials said they will do all they can to help but were not sure who will be responsible for the damage left by the underground collapse.

They urge anyone who has seen signs of damage on their property to contact the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.
