An Evansville City Council member is charged with fraud following an investigation into her run in a Democratic Party caucus. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
Police arrested Fourth Ward council member Tanisha Carothers Tuesday.
She was booked into the Vanderburgh County jail and then released.
Carothers faces a charge of felony fraud and a misdemeanor count of defacing, falsifying or destroying an election document.
A police affidavit states Carothers did not live in the Fourth Ward for six months prior to the caucus or within the city limits for at least a year.
Both are required by state law.
Carothers is also accused of submitting a falsified document to receive an employment benefit.
The investigation began after Angie Bullock, who ran against Carothers in the caucus and lost, contacted Evansville Police.
Bullock has also filed a civil suit against Carothers.
