Authorities say the driver of a car fell asleep at the wheel and hit a school bus

Authorities are urging drivers to stay alert behind the wheel after a car collided with a school bus on Friday. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:

The crash happened at the intersection of Diamond Avenue and Mesker Park Drive.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says the driver of the car ran a red light and crashed into the side of an EVSC bus that was southbound on Mesker Park.

The bus was carrying nine students and they were not injured.

The driver of the car told deputies she had fallen asleep while driving, causing the collision.

Two witnesses also reported observing the driver appearing to fall asleep before the crash.

The driver of the car was ticketed for running the red light.

The Sheriff’s Office encourages all drivers to remain alert and avoid distractions or fatigue while driving, especially near school zones and in high-traffic areas.
