The Governor of Kentucky has issued a state of emergency ahead of potential flooding. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
Gov. Andy Beshear made the declaration as a Flood Watch goes into effect for the Tri-State.
Forecasters say parts of western Kentucky – including the Madisonville area -- could see four-to-six inches of rain.
Beshear says combined with previous rainfall in recent days, flooding is likely across the commonwealth.
The Governor is activating the Kentucky Emergency Operations Center and units of the Kentucky National Guard to stand ready to respond.
He says transportation officials and crews are also on alert, and local emergency management leaders are working to keep Kentuckians informed.
Beshear urges all residents to careful, especially on roadways.
He says don’t drive through standing water because it can have a current that’s “incredibly dangerous.”
The heavy rain is expected to be followed by much colder air on Sunday.
