The council is considering a a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area for Downtown

The Evansville City Council is expected to vote Monday night on a measure that would allow people to openly drink alcohol on downtown streets. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The Downtown Evansville Economic Improvement District filed the ordinance to establish a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area -- or DORA.

Indiana law allows a city to create an area where residents ages 21 and older can purchase alcoholic beverages and carry them out of establishments to drink within the area’s boundaries.

The EID says such a designated area would boost foot traffic and economic growth downtown.

If approved, the measure would go before the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission.
