A state commission has approved an electric rate increase for CenterPoint Energy. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:
The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission voted unanimously to allow rates to increase in southern Indiana.
The five-to-nothing vote was part of a meeting in Indianapolis Monday that lasted less than five minutes.
No public testimony was taken at the meeting and the commissioners voted without comment.
It’s not clear yet how much rates will go up.
The Texas-based utility company initially sought a roughly $50 per-month increase for the average residential customer.
But SABIC Innovative Plastics in Mt. Vernon filed a settlement agreement last May to reduce the residential rate increase to about $35 a month.
The reduction agreement was not endorsed by the Evansville City Council or the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor.
