A police K-9 in southern Indiana will soon be wearing a special vest. WNIN’s John Gibson explains:
Indiana State Police at the Jasper post say the K-9 named Barker will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation to a non-profit organization.
The group called Vested Interest in K9s has been around 15 years and has donated nearly six-thousand ballistic vests for police dogs across the U.S.
Barker’s vest was sponsored by Deanne and Martin Barley of Fountain City, Indiana and will be embroidered with the sentiment “In honor of K9 Officer Seara Burton”.
The Richmond, Indiana officer was shot to death in 2022.
The man accused of killing her, Phillip Lee, was found dead in his prison cell while awaiting trial last June.
Barker’s new vest is expected to arrive within ten weeks.
The potentially lifesaving body armor for four-legged officers is custom fitted.
