METS Restarts Downtown Trolley Route

File

The service starts Monday, Jan. 20

The METS Trolley is returning to Downtown Evansville next week. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The Metropolitan Evansville Transit System announced the reopening of the trolley service on Friday.

Mayor Stephanie Terry says she’s made it a priority to reopen METS Routes that were paused due to COVID and a national driver shortage.

Terry says since the creation of the METS Driver’s School, seven students have graduated and become CDL bus drivers.

The mayor says it’s helping cut down on overtime and has allowed the city reopen its first route.

The Downtown Trolley is actually a full size bus designed to look like a trolley.

It will run Monday to Friday from 6:15am to 6:15pm.

Some of the stops on the route include Main Street, Haynie’s Corner, cMoe, the Evansville Museum, C.K. Newsome Center, Bosse Field and Bally’s Casino.
