Tuesday's rain and wind may be followed by a winter storm this weekend. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:
A Wind Advisory is in effect for the Tri-State until 5:00 Tuesday evening.
The National Weather Service is predicting gusts of 35-to-45 miles an hour.
Combined with soggy soil from the rain, Weather Service Senior Meteorologist Derrick Snyder says he wouldn’t be shocked by uprooted trees in addition to small limbs down and flying holiday decorations.
The office in Paducah is also looking ahead to an expected winter storm and Arctic blast for early next week.
Snyder says it’s still too early to pin down specific precipitation types or amounts.
He says there appear to be three different possibilities, starting Sunday: A fairly widespread snowstorm; a wintry mix with freezing rain or sleet and snow accumulations; or mostly rain with some icing north of Interstate 64.
Beyond the weekend, the pattern looks cold, with single digit or subzero wind chills a possibility.
Snyder also says there may be some additional winter weather as models show clipper systems pushing through the region with light snow.
